Starting Over in My 50s: The Dinner Table Epiphany That Sparked Tech TLC

I didn’t plan to start a company in my 50s. But sometimes life has other ideas.

For most of my career, I thrived as the behind-the-scenes operator. The one who made things run smoothly: writing SOPs, building systems, supporting teams. I wasn’t the one chasing the spotlight. I didn’t call myself an entrepreneur, a CEO, or a founder. Those titles never felt like mine.

But then the ground shifted.

After decades of building skills and experience, I found myself locked out of the job market. I read a statistic that 75% of people in their 50s and above don’t get rehired. And then I lived it.

I applied to thousands of jobs. I customized resumes. I wrote endless cover letters. Most of the time, I didn’t even get an acknowledgment. Not even a “thank you for applying.” Just silence.

It was a hard truth to face. But it also became a turning point.

One evening, I was sitting at dinner with my parents and their friends. They’re in their 80s — bright, funny, capable people. But when the conversation turned to apps, logins, and “mystery buttons,” I felt the anxiety in the room.

They weren’t clueless. They just hadn’t grown up in the tech era. And with every update, every login, every new platform, came the same fear: What if I click the wrong thing? What if I mess it up?

That night, something clicked for me.

The job market didn’t want me. Technology wasn’t serving them. Both problems had the same root: a failure to teach with clarity and kindness.

That was my epiphany. Tech TLC was born.

I didn’t have a safety net. I didn’t have investors lined up. I bootstrapped Tech TLC with grit, stubbornness, and an unwavering belief that kindness could be a strategy.

At first, it was just me — piecing together the vision, refining it through trial and error. But then I found incredible people who believed in the mission too. Together, we started creating clear, step-by-step educational videos that launch with products — so people know how to use them from day one.

The outcome? Less confusion. Fewer complaints. Happier clients. And most importantly, people who feel confident instead of anxious.

For me, Tech TLC isn’t just a company. It’s personal.

It’s for my parents and their friends. It’s for me, starting over when the world told me I was obsolete. It’s for anyone who’s ever felt left out, overlooked, or frustrated by technology.

I didn’t set out to become a CEO. I didn’t chase the title of founder. I just refused to give up — and I refused to accept a world where technology makes people feel small.

Because at the end of the day, technology should make life easier. For all of us.
